Morphologies of Assembling
Bio
Paul Kuipers is an architect who explores interventionist forms of architecture. From 2001 to 2003 he was part of the mark&mark&paul collective, undertaking research-related art projects within urban planning.
Subsequently, in 2003, he started working with EventArchitectuur, a designstudio for time- and experience-based architecture, where he worked on projects ranging from a temporary art museum to exhibitions and installations on contemporary culture. In 2011 he was part of a collective group of artists that developed the installation Opera Aperta/Loose Work at Dutch pavilion of the Venice Biennale.
Kuipers founded his own studio in 2015 which has dedicated itself, among others, on a longtime project called 'Host Edward Snowden': an architectural research on spatial encryption that consists of a new public home for Edward Snowden in Amsterdam. Since 2012, he also started a long-lasting collaboration with artist Jonas Staal on morphologies of the assembly such as the New World Summit and New Unions, fueled by a joint research into speculative and utopian forms of architecture.
Since 2019 Kuipers is a guest lecturer at the Academy of Architecture in Amsterdam.
