Elastic Structures
The new Festival OFF is regarded as an extraordinary performance produced by the National Opera, beyond the boundaries of the existing theatre. The foyer, in particular, will serve as a stage for various performances and activities. The architecture that facilitates these performances comprehends a number of typologies and is divided into three categories: Support, Scene and Prop.
The Support components are functionally deployable for information provision, signage, lounge, and bar. The Scene is a definition within the space for projection, performance, or exhibition. The Prop is a more independent element to give the festival its own (abstract/alienating) atmosphere.
Referring to the structural properties of the ready-made truss, scaffolding and pallet, specific structural elements have been designed for OFF. With these elements, space-frames are created, which are simultaneously construction and skin.
